Job Description

From Amazon's evolution to Apple's latest game-changing launch to how artificial intelligence will reshape the way we do business - these are all stories we'd like Campaign's new tech editor to explore and bring to life in original, entertaining and genuinely useful content.

Campaign, the industry-leading media brand, is looking for a bright and enthusiastic senior journalist to join its editorial team and contribute to its multi-channel coverage of the advertising, marketing and media sector.

The role offers the opportunity to be Campaign's tech expert, a high profile, senior position on the team.

Role Summary

A senior journalist covering the broader tech industry, from the most interesting consumer tech brands to other businesses using tech to drive innovation that is changing the landscape in which our industry operates. You will produce news, analysis and features for both online and print, as well as create content across video and audio, plus help to develop concepts and content for live events, including award shows and public speaking.

Although the role is based in the UK, the tech remit is global. The technology editor will focus on uncovering and delivering those tech stories that are significant for marcomms professionals in the US and Asia, as well as the UK.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • From Facebook and Twitter to Google and Amazon, you will provide expertise on some of the biggest brands in the world, as well as creating content on all the important future tech trends – from voice to AR/VR.
  • As a senior journalist, you are a self-starter, with a constant flow of brilliant ideas, from daily news-related content to more in-depth projects.
  • You will represent the brand when it comes to our tech coverage, looking for new ways to give our brand the edge over competitors. This includes taking part in, and hosting, events.
  • Write and edit copy daily for an online audience, optimising content for search engine performance and to enhance user experience. You will also contribute to the monthly print title.
  • You will also write on other non-tech topics across our industry.
  • You will report live from conferences and events, interview industry leaders, seek out market-beating opportunities to enhance the brand and commissioning opinion pieces.
  • You will be adept at using social media and SEO to amplify content.
  • You will have an understanding of analytics and using real-time data to shape content strategy and inform content follow-ups. You will use analytics everyday to see how content is performing and how it can be improved upon (and encourage others to do so).
  • Think of new and enticing ways to tell stories, including producing video or audio material, and will be encouraged to use online tools and techniques to add value to online coverage.
  • You will develop an understanding of the dynamics of the marcomms community in the US and Asia as well as the UK, enabling you to identify those stories that are of value to professionals in all those territories and beyond – the real ‘game-changers’ – in terms of tech strategy and the most innovative brands and businesses.
  • You will build contacts who have original insights and perspectives on the global tech scene, and who can therefore help you uncover stories of global significance.
